If you are a caregiver agency looking for online training resources for your staff, we have created professional content just for you!

Threshold Therapeutic is committed to improving the safety and wellbeing of the clients we serve, and the caregivers that serve them. We have created a series of resources to provide training and support for our community of devoted caregivers.

Threshold Therapeutic’s caregiver training resources provide a unique perspective to the skills needed to care for a client or loved on at home. Crafted by an occupational therapist with expertise in senior home care and rehabilitation, our training resources are designed to integrate self-care skills with expert knowledge in biomechanics, safety, and efficiency. Our lifting techniques are different than those taught in traditional settings, emphasizing the use of leverage and body mechanics to reduce strain, and ensure a smooth process for both the client and the caregiver. It is our goal and our passion to ensure that both our clients and their caregivers feel safe, supported, and cared for. Browse on this page for more information and to choose your training package.

Mattie Ablitz, OTR/L

We firmly believe that a client is best served when all members of the team feel competent, supported, and safe. This mindset drives how we approach home care. This course was inspired by the clients, families, and caregivers that we have collaborated with and trained over the last several years.

For those who have previous training and patient handling experience, you will note that the patient handling techniques shown in this manual may be different from those that you may have seen, used, or been taught in other settings. The reason for this is that we approach patient handling with the perspective of a therapist. This means that safety, biomechanics, and simplicity are at the forefront of our treatment approach. These techniques are designed to reduce the burden of the caregiver, reduce strain on the back and neck, and to allow the patient to participate safely as much as possible. We emphasize the use of leverage to generate movement, as opposed to lifting, to reduce strain. Allow us to show you some alternate techniques to add to your caregiver toolbox.

Mattie is an occupational therapist with more than 14 years of clinical experience. Mattie specializes in working with adults and seniors in their homes with special focus on home safety, home modifications, rehabilitation, and caregiver training.
